Typhoon Lagoon vs Blizzard Beach

The summer is just around the corner! It is the time to start planning your family trip to one of Walt Disney’s water theme parks. In Orlando, Florida, there are two Disney water theme parks that are very famous not only in the United States but also in the world: Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach. Typhoon Lagoon brings up the theme of a tropical place that has just been hit by a massive typhoon. On the other hand, the theme of Blizzard Beach is melting snow. So, which place will you and your family enjoy the most?

The Theming
Knowing the theme and backstory before visiting a Disney water park is important if you want your children to enjoy the visit to the fullest. Typhoon Lagoon is more beach-like. According to the “legend”, the Typhoon Lagoon was created by an epic storm that hurled surfboards and boats into palm trees and hills. The typhoon has made the storm-soaked Mount Mayday an ideal spot for exhilarating waterways, rapids, slides, and rivers. The theming suits the place well.

On the other hand, Blizzard Beach has a cute backstory. As previously explained in Aquatica vs Blizzard Beach, after a freak snowstorm hit Florida, a ski resort sprang up with cool slalom courses, slides, and iceberg walkways. However, when the weather went back to hot, the whole resort was melting. An enterprising alligator in a scarf and hat saved the place by ski-jumping with a big splash into a pool of melting snow under the mountain, creating the ideas of slushy, slippery slopes like no other in the world.

Although the backstory is cute, not many people like it. After spending the last few months dealing with the winter, the last thing that people want is getting reminded of snow. Besides, wearing a swimsuit while being surrounded by snow is kind of weird. However, if you can put aside the thoughts, the theme is actually nice and interesting.

The Attractions
There are several factors that you need to consider when choosing between Typhoon Lagoon vs Blizzard Beach regarding the attractions. If you are looking for safe attractions for children, Typhoon Lagoon is better. It actually has a little bit of everything for everyone. Most of the slides aren’t very steep. On the other hand, Blizzard Beach’s slides may attract older children and teenagers – there are some that can give you a heart attack, such as the Summit Plummet which is a terrifying 12-stories slide straight down.

Both places have nice pools. They both have wave pools. However, Typhoon Lagoon’s pools are larger. Its Surf Pool is actually the largest wave pool in the world. You can even learn surfing here. Meanwhile, Blizzard Beach’s wave pools are more moderately sized. Both Typhoon Lagoon and Blizzard Beach also have lazy rivers with water falls, caves, and many other attractions. The food offerings are also very similar.

If you are going with young children, Typhoon Lagoon is most probably a better choice. It has “gentler” slides. Typhoon Lagoon is a great choice if you are going with lots of people due to the larger pools. However, if you want to try thrilling, adrenaline-pumping slides, Blizzard Beach is the way to go!
