So, you have decided that you are going to visit Punta Cana in the Dominican Republic. That’s great! However, there is another thing that you still need to consider. Punta Cana is quite a large region. Where will you stay? People who visit the easternmost resort town of the country usually stay either in Punta Cana or Bavaro. So, what is the difference between Punta Cana vs Bavaro? Which place does offer the best overall experience?
Punta Cana is on the Dominican Republic’s easternmost tip. Relative to Bavaro, it is more on the southern side. It abuts the Atlantic Ocean on the north and the Caribbean Sea on the south. See the comparisons between Punta Cana vs Cabo here.
Meanwhile, Bavaro is more on the northern side. So, it is technically facing the Atlantic Ocean, although the area is still considered as the place where the Caribbean Sea meets the Atlantic Ocean. Together with Punta Cana, they create a region known as La Costa del Coco alias the Coconut Coast, which is a region of lavish all-inclusive resorts.
Punta Cana vs Bavaro beaches are both very beautiful. They all offer stunning postcard-like scenes, with all the smooth white sand and turquoise water. There are just small differences that you can consider to decide your choice between these two places.
There is no ugly beach in Punta Cana, mainly because all the resorts here always take care of the beaches. The beaches are always prepared. However, they are not always swimmable. You can’t really tell for sure when the beaches will become swimmable or not, as it depends on the wind and weather. In the calm days, some of the beaches are wavy while some others are calm.
On the other hand, the beaches in Bavaro are relatively calmer. This is an excellent choice if you want to enjoy calm still water. They have few rough days and many calm days. However, Bavaro can get some tropical storm from the Atlantic Ocean, during which the beaches can become rougher. Make sure that you check the weather forecast before heading out.
